Residential Care Home

The Home is registered for older persons with social care needs only and is regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission.

The Home retained an excellent rating when it was inspected in 2008. A copy of the inspection report can be obtained from the Home or from the Care Quality Commission. The Home's Service User Guide is also available on request here.

We aim to treat each resident within the Home as an individual who has rights and choices. We encourage residents to maintain their personal independence. Where assistance and support is required, this is provided by our team of staff who maintain at all times the dignity and privacy of our residents. We actively encourage our residents and their families to be involved in issues about the running of the Home and in all decisions about their care.

Facilities

  • Refurbished in 2008, the Home is located in the grounds of the Charity's sheltered housing complex. Newcastle City Centre, local shops and parks are also nearby.
  • There are 18 single bedrooms (7 en-suite) for either male or female residents located on two levels with a passenger lift between floors. There are specially equipped bathing & toilet facilities. There is an emergency call system installed in all rooms. A fire alarm system and smoke detectors are in operation throughout the Home and residents may only smoke when supervised and in designated bedrooms.
  • Within each bedroom we provide a bed, bedside cabinet (with lockable storage for valuables), lamp, wardrobe, drawer unit and chairs. We encourage residents to bring personal belongings to help furnish their bedroom. A TV aerial point and private telephone is installed in each bedroom although there is a charge for outgoing calls. The Home insures the belongings of each resident against fire and theft to the value of £500.
  • We have a communal lounge and dining room with additional recreational facilities

Admissions Procedure

The Home aims to meet the needs of older people requiring long term or respite social care only. As a Charity for older persons with limited financial means the Home welcomes potential applicants currently living in Newcastle upon Tyne or the surrounding area who receive local authority funding. Each application is considered on its own merit. To ensure that the Home can meet the care needs of a new resident we carry out an assessment and offer an 8 week trial placement.
